Hanoi Opera House stands as an architectural and political symbol of the 1000 years old capital. 

Inspired by The French Palais Garnier Opera, the theatre was inaugurated and built according to the plans of two architects, Broyer and Harlay from 1901 to 1911. Its architectural style carries French colonical influence, marking a significant period in Vietnamese architectural history at the beginning of the 20th century. 

SHOW CONCEPT

Lang Toi, also known as My Village, is a delicate merge of tradition and innovation, where poetic beauty of Vietnamese village life is presented under new cirque approach. Farming, building activities, traditional games, lifestyle of villagers are recreated by ancestral bamboo props, breathtaking cirque, juggling, and stunning acrobatics. Enchanting folk melody is played from more than 20 exotic traditional musical instruments.

POETIC VIETNAMESE VILLAGE LIFE 

The beauty of early Vietnamese village life is painted in contemporary stage language. Scenes of farmers ploughing, cottage building, fishing, children playing, family gathering, are rendered with bold, yet graceful strokes of bamboo moves and sensual choreography. It is as if seen through the lens of a native son who look deep into of Vietnamese culture and contemplating its poetic beauty.

BAMBOO: THE POWERFUL USE OF A CULTURAL ICON 

The creative use of a simple prop, but also an ancient and culturally iconic material – the bamboo trunk – creates the show’s distinct visual language. At the heart of the performance, the bamboo constantly transforms, painting beautiful memoirs of Vietnam’s early days, when every village’s life was nurtured and sheltered by a bamboo ‘nest’.

BREATHTAKING CIRQUE

Feast your eyes on stunning movement, graceful contortion and metaphoric juggling performed by a dedicated cast of skilled artists trained by world-class creators. With a unique use of props and graceful storytelling, Lang Toi totally breaks away from the traditional circus, just as celebrated by French press critics.

EXOTIC LIVE MUSIC

More than any other Vietnamese cultural show, Lang Toi is a musical treasure. The show boasts a live band of five seasoned and renowned local artists who performed worldwide and honored by Vietnamese Ministry of Culture. 20 different exotic folk instruments are played with passion, creating a sensational rhythm that weaves a distinct ‘Lang Toi’ realm.
